Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before working with us

We have gathered the most common questions from clients and collaborators. If your question is not answered here, reach out directly and we will respond within 48 hours.

Booking & Process

How do I start a project with Seideldexa?

The first step is a discovery call. You can book one through our contact page or by emailing [email protected]. During that call we discuss your subject, angle and goals. Within 48 hours you receive a written scope proposal that includes a detailed timeline, transparent pricing and deliverables. Once you approve the proposal and submit the deposit (if applicable), we begin work on the agreed start date.

How long does a typical project take from start to finish?

Timelines depend on project complexity. An editorial piece or op-ed generally takes one to two weeks. A focused single-subject investigation runs two to four weeks. Document-heavy, multi-source projects may require six to eight weeks. Podcast episodes are typically delivered within ten business days of the recording session. We always provide a timeline estimate in our scope proposal before any commitment.

Can you work with clients outside Toronto or Ontario?

Yes. While our 85 m² workspace and 12 m² recording booth are located in Toronto's Kensington Market, we regularly work with clients across Canada and internationally. Investigative research, editorial writing and fact-checking are conducted remotely as a matter of course. For podcast production that requires in-studio recording, we can arrange sessions at our Spadina Avenue facility or use professional remote recording tools. Visit our about page to learn more about the studio.

What happens during the discovery call?

The discovery call is a 30-minute conversation where we learn about your project, subject matter and intended audience. We discuss the angle, any existing research or documentation you have, and the format you envision for the final deliverable. There is no charge for the discovery call. Afterwards, we prepare a scope proposal that outlines the work, timeline, pricing and terms. You can review our full range of offerings on the services page.

Do you maintain editorial independence on commissioned work?

Absolutely. Editorial independence is a foundational principle at Seideldexa. We do not accept conditions that compromise the accuracy or integrity of our work. Clients may review drafts for factual accuracy and request revisions, but the editorial direction, sourcing decisions and conclusions remain under our control. This principle is written into every project agreement and reflected in our terms of service.

Sessions & Projects

What types of projects do you take on?

We handle investigative reporting, editorial and feature writing, fact-checking and research, podcast and audio production, and media consulting. Projects range from a single fact-check or op-ed to multi-month investigative series. We also offer training workshops and newsroom audits for media organizations. Full descriptions and starting rates are available on the services page.

Who will be assigned to my project?

Our four-person team assigns projects based on subject expertise, format requirements and availability. Your scope proposal names the team member or members who will handle your project. For investigative work, a lead reporter is always identified at the outset. You communicate directly with the person doing the work, not through a project manager layer.

How will I be kept informed about progress?

We provide regular progress updates by email at intervals agreed in the scope proposal, typically weekly for multi-week projects. Updates cover work completed, findings to date and any emerging questions. We balance transparency with editorial independence: you are kept informed about direction without being asked to approve sourcing or reporting decisions.

How many rounds of revisions are included?

Every project includes two rounds of revisions at no additional cost. The first draft is provided for your factual review, and we incorporate your feedback into a revised version. A second revision round addresses any remaining concerns. Additional revision rounds beyond the included two can be arranged at an agreed hourly rate, detailed in the scope proposal.

Can you arrange legal review of sensitive content?

Yes. For investigative pieces or content involving legal risk, we can coordinate a pre-publication legal review with qualified media lawyers. This is offered as an add-on service and priced separately based on the scope and complexity of the material. If you anticipate needing legal review, raise it during the discovery call so we can include it in the proposal from the start.

Files & Deliverables

In what formats will I receive the finished work?

Written deliverables are provided in the format you prefer, typically DOCX, PDF or plain text. We can also deliver formatted HTML or CMS-ready copy if needed. Podcast and audio files are delivered as broadcast-ready WAV or MP3, with separate stems (voice, music, effects) available on request. Specific format requirements should be discussed during the discovery call.

Do I get access to raw materials and research notes?

Where agreed in the project scope, we provide raw materials including interview transcripts, document collections and research notes. For investigative work, raw materials are delivered alongside the final piece. Source-identifying information may be redacted where source protection agreements are in place. Access terms are specified in your project agreement and governed by our terms of service.

How long do you keep project files in your archive?

All project files, including raw recordings, drafts and final deliverables, are archived on our secure local infrastructure for 24 months from the project completion date. During that period you may request additional copies or alternative formats at no charge. After 24 months, files are securely deleted unless you request an extension. Our data handling practices are described in full in the privacy policy.

What podcast files do I receive after production?

Podcast clients receive the final mixed and mastered episode file in WAV and MP3, episode metadata (title, description, chapter markers), and a transcript. If your project includes series launch packages, we also provide podcast artwork templates and RSS feed configuration documentation. Raw session recordings from our 12 m² recording booth are available on request and remain in our archive for 24 months.

Rights & Ownership

Who owns the intellectual property of commissioned work?

Upon full payment, all intellectual property rights to the commissioned work transfer to you, the client. This includes reproduction, distribution and adaptation rights. We retain no publication or licensing rights unless explicitly agreed otherwise in the project contract. The complete IP transfer clause is detailed in section 8 of our terms of service.

Can I license the work to third parties after delivery?

Yes. Once rights have transferred to you upon full payment, you are free to license, syndicate or sublicense the work to any third party without requiring our approval. We ask only that the work not be materially altered in ways that misrepresent its findings or conclusions. If you need a specific licensing structure set up before the project begins, we can address that in the scope proposal.

Do you require attribution or a byline?

By default, Seideldexa does not require attribution or a byline on commissioned work. The rights transfer is complete and unconditional upon payment. However, if you wish to credit the author or our studio, we welcome it. Attribution preferences can be specified in the project agreement. For ghostwritten work, we maintain strict confidentiality as described in our privacy policy.

How do you handle confidentiality and NDAs?

Confidentiality is built into every project agreement. All Seideldexa team members are bound by internal confidentiality standards covering client information, source identities and unpublished material. If your project requires a separate non-disclosure agreement, we are happy to sign one before work begins. We maintain all recordings and documents on local infrastructure rather than third-party cloud services, and our data handling practices are outlined in our privacy policy.

Payment & Cancellation

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Interac e-Transfer, wire transfer and cheque. All payments are in Canadian dollars (CAD). Credit card payments are not currently available. For international clients, wire transfer is the preferred method. Payment instructions are included on every invoice we issue.

What are the payment terms for business clients?

For registered business clients (B2B), our standard payment terms are Net 30 from the invoice date. This applies to the balance after any required deposit. We issue detailed invoices upon project completion or at agreed milestones for larger engagements. Overdue payments are subject to the terms outlined in our terms of service.

Is a deposit required before work begins?

A 30% deposit is required for projects with a total value over $2,000 CAD. The deposit is due before work begins and is applied toward the final invoice. For projects under $2,000 CAD, no deposit is required and the full amount is invoiced upon completion. Deposit requirements are clearly stated in the scope proposal you receive after the discovery call.

What is your cancellation policy?

You may cancel any project free of charge up to 7 business days before the agreed start date. If you cancel with less than 7 business days notice, the 30% deposit (if applicable) is non-refundable as it covers planning, scheduling and resource allocation already undertaken. Once work has started, cancellation terms are governed by the milestone structure in your project agreement. Full details are in our terms of service.

Are your prices inclusive of tax?

All prices quoted on our website and in scope proposals include 13% HST (Harmonized Sales Tax, Ontario). Seideldexa Inc. is a registered HST collector (HST 725891403RT0001). HST is itemized separately on all invoices for clients who require it for their own tax filings. Non-Canadian clients may be exempt from HST depending on their jurisdiction and the nature of the services provided.
