Independent journalism built on curiosity, rigour and trust
Seideldexa is a small editorial studio in Toronto that produces investigative reports, long-form features and documentary audio. We have been doing this work since 2019, guided by one principle: the audience deserves stories that are accurate, complete and free from outside influence.
The team behind the work
Every story that carries the Seideldexa name passes through at least two sets of hands before publication. Our team of four covers research, writing, fact-checking, audio production and editorial review. Each member brings a distinct background, and together we handle projects that range from municipal accountability investigations to hour-long documentary podcasts.
Sarah Mitchell
Founder and Editor-in-Chief
Sarah started Seideldexa after twelve years reporting for Canadian dailies. She oversees editorial direction, manages client relationships and writes the majority of our long-form investigative pieces. Her background in municipal affairs and public records law shapes the way we approach every assignment.
James Chen
Senior Reporter
James joined the team in 2021 and focuses on technology, healthcare and corporate governance. He conducts most of our field interviews and handles source verification. Before Seideldexa, he spent seven years covering regulatory affairs for a national wire service.
Amelie Fournier
Multimedia Producer
Amelie produces all of our audio content, from short news segments to full-length documentary episodes. She manages recording sessions, sound design, post-production editing and distribution. Her previous work in public radio gave her a strong foundation in narrative storytelling and audience engagement.
David Okafor
Research Analyst
David handles data analysis, public records requests and deep-dive fact-checking. He reviews financial filings, court documents and regulatory databases to build the evidentiary backbone of our investigations. His careful methodology ensures that every claim we publish stands up to scrutiny.
Our workspace
We work out of an 85 square metre studio on the second floor of a converted warehouse in Kensington Market. The space is split between an open editorial area where we write, edit and hold planning meetings, and a dedicated recording booth of 12 square metres that is acoustically treated for broadcast-quality audio capture. The booth is fitted with absorptive wall panels, a floating floor and a sealed door to keep ambient noise below the threshold our productions require.
85 m2 editorial floor
Desks, meeting table, secure file storage and a reference library occupy the main floor. Natural light from three large windows keeps the room comfortable for long production days.
12 m2 recording booth
Purpose-built for voice recording and interviews, the booth delivers consistent audio quality that meets broadcast standards without requiring external studio hire.
Equipment and process
Our editorial workflow follows a structured sequence: research and sourcing, drafting, internal review, fact-check and final edit. Every published piece goes through at least two rounds of independent fact-checking before release. For audio content, we record on condenser microphones through a dedicated mixing console, edit in a professional digital audio workstation and master to broadcast loudness standards.
Written reports are drafted in plain text, version-controlled, and reviewed against primary sources before publication. We maintain an internal style guide that covers attribution, sourcing transparency and correction policy. When a story requires data analysis, David builds reproducible workflows so that every number we cite can be independently verified.
Editorial independence
Seideldexa is privately held and accepts no advertising revenue, government grants or sponsorship arrangements that could compromise our editorial judgement. We are funded entirely through client commissions and licensing agreements. No client, funder or outside party has the right to review, alter or suppress any of our editorial content before publication. This separation between revenue and editorial decision-making is non-negotiable.
Our commitment to independence extends to sourcing. We disclose potential conflicts of interest in every piece, maintain a strict firewall between commercial relationships and newsroom decisions, and publish corrections promptly when errors are identified. You can read more about how we handle assignments on our services page, or review common questions about our process on the FAQ page.
