Audio production rooted in editorial discipline

A podcast is journalism you can hear. The same standards that govern a published investigation - verified facts, fair representation, editorial independence - apply equally to audio storytelling. At Seideldexa, our podcast production combines professional sound engineering with the editorial rigour of a working newsroom.

Our 12 m² soundproofed recording studio on Spadina Avenue is purpose-built for voice work. Amelie Fournier leads production with experience spanning interview-format shows, narrative documentary series and panel discussions. Whether you are launching a new podcast or need production support for an existing one, we handle the technical and editorial work so you can focus on the conversation.

Our Process

Four stages from concept to published episode

1. Pre-production planning

We discuss the episode concept, guest lineup, narrative structure and target length. For interview formats, we develop a question framework that guides the conversation while leaving room for spontaneous direction. For narrative episodes, we outline the script structure and identify the audio elements needed. You approve the plan before any recording begins.

2. Recording

In-studio sessions take place at our Spadina Avenue facility. The soundproofed booth accommodates up to three participants comfortably. For remote guests, we connect through professional recording tools that capture each participant on a separate track for optimal audio quality. Every session is monitored live by our producer to catch technical issues in real time.

3. Editing and post-production

Raw recordings are edited for clarity, pacing and narrative flow. We remove false starts, verbal fillers and dead air while preserving the natural rhythm of conversation. For full production packages, we add intro and outro music, chapter markers, sound design elements and mastering to broadcast standards. You receive the edited episode for review before finalization.

4. Delivery and archive

Final files are delivered in your specified format: WAV, MP3, FLAC or AAC at your chosen bitrate. Episode metadata, show notes and transcript drafts are included with full production packages. All raw recordings are archived in our secure local infrastructure for 24 months.

Who uses our audio production

Our podcast clients include journalists launching independent shows, non-profit organizations adding audio to their communications strategy, academic institutions producing research-focused series and publishers extending their editorial reach into audio formats.

What distinguishes our production from a general audio studio is editorial involvement. We do not just press record and hand you a file. We contribute to the editorial planning, help shape questions that draw out substantive answers, fact-check claims made during interviews and ensure the final product meets journalistic standards. If your podcast aims to inform rather than entertain, that editorial layer is what makes the difference between a conversation and a piece of journalism.

The recording studio

Our 12 m² recording booth is located within the main Seideldexa workspace at 274 Spadina Avenue, Suite 301. The room is acoustically treated and soundproofed to eliminate external noise from the busy Kensington Market neighbourhood. It is a five-minute walk from Spadina station on TTC Lines 1 and 2.

The studio is equipped for professional voice recording. We provide all necessary equipment for in-person sessions; guests need only show up. For remote participants, we use professional-grade remote recording tools that capture isolated audio tracks, ensuring clean sound regardless of the guest's home setup. The studio is available for booking Monday through Friday, 9:00 to 18:00 EST. To decide whether audio is the right format for your project, see our guide on choosing the right format for your story.

Understanding the packages

Interview recording and editing ($380/episode) covers a single interview session in our studio or via remote connection, plus editing for clarity and pacing. You receive the finished audio file and the raw recording. This package suits established shows that have their own intro, outro and distribution workflow and need quality recording and editing support.

Full episode production ($750/episode) includes everything in the interview package plus pre-production planning, intro and outro production, chapter markers, sound design, mastering, show notes and a draft transcript. This is the complete package for organizations that want to hand off the entire production process.

Series launch ($3,200 for 5 episodes) is designed for new podcasts. It includes full production of five episodes, plus series branding elements: intro and outro music, format template, episode structure guidelines and distribution setup advice. The launch package builds the foundation that makes ongoing production efficient.

Monthly production ($2,600 for 4 episodes/month) is our retainer option for shows with a regular publishing schedule. It includes full production of four episodes per month, priority scheduling, a dedicated production slot and ongoing editorial consultation. Additional episodes in a month are billed at the per-episode full production rate.

Frequently asked questions

Can remote guests achieve the same audio quality as in-studio?

Remote recording captures each participant on a separate, locally-recorded track, which eliminates the compression and latency issues of standard video calls. The audio quality is significantly better than a Zoom recording. That said, in-studio recording in our soundproofed booth will always deliver the cleanest result. For guests who cannot travel to Toronto, the remote option is an excellent alternative that we use regularly.

How long is a typical recording session?

For a standard interview episode targeting 30 to 45 minutes of finished audio, we book a 90-minute studio slot. This allows time for setup, sound checks, the interview itself and a buffer for retakes or extended conversation. Narrative episodes with multiple segments may require additional sessions, which we schedule during pre-production planning.

Do you help with podcast distribution and hosting?

We provide guidance on choosing a hosting platform and setting up your RSS feed as part of the series launch package. However, we do not manage hosting accounts or handle ongoing distribution. Our focus is on producing the audio content itself. For broader distribution strategy and audience development, our media consulting service covers those areas.

Can I use the studio for non-podcast recording?

Yes. Our studio is used for podcast recording, audio interviews for print journalism, voiceover work and narration. The space is optimized for voice, not music production. If your project involves voice recording in any format, the studio and our production support are available at the same rates.

What file formats do you deliver?

We deliver in WAV, MP3, FLAC or AAC at your specified bitrate. Most podcast hosting platforms accept MP3 at 128 kbps or higher. If you need a specific format or encoding for your distribution platform, let us know during pre-production and we will accommodate it. The raw multi-track recordings are archived separately in WAV format.
